In most cases, we give one year grants only. Where the Society has discretionary use of special bequests, it may agree to enter into a funding agreement with one or more registered charities to deliver innovative new services or work programmes in the Society’s catchment area. A case in point is the role of the Society’s Dewar Bequest Fund, whose annual income supports the work of charities to develop the musical talent of young people and is reviewed every 3 years. Organisations interested in entering such an arrangement should write to the Secretary in the first instance.
The Society gives grants which may be applied to:
- New projects or work programmes.
- Capital projects, including equipment or welfare / bursary funds.
- Seasonal or holiday activities, including student research abroad.
As a general rule, we will not fund specific staff posts although a grant from the Society may contribute to work requiring new professional jobs to be created. We particularly favour activities that generate new volunteering opportunities, especially among children or the elderly.
